Toner Notes

Grades of toner vary. New SX toner cartridges from Canon use finer toner than new CX cartridges, but they are inconsistent in output quality. Rumor has it that Canon builds toner cartridges with higher grades of toner for certain large OEM customers. Other Canon OEMs sell their own premium toner. Quality conscious OEMs buy new toner cartridges from Canon and then rebuild them with high-grade toner formulated for printing solid black areas, sharp fine lines, and gray scales with smooth transitions between the various levels of gray.

The Printer Works sells both remanufactured and new toner cartridges with various OEM brand labels. We continually test the remanufactured cartridges to find the best vendors of high-quality graphics toner. We have found that the best remanufacturers of CX and SX toner cartridges can exceed the quality of new cartridges from Canon. The worst remanufacturers fall far short of Canon's standards.
