Note

The base assembly shown here is used only on CX printers. It is not used on CXD printers. The CXD base assembly is much more complicated, and includes many more parts (as shown in diagrams 310 through 314).

The CX and CXD PCB/PCB FC versions have the same additional power supply to provide the additional 5 volt current required by the video controller. These transformers and circuit boards are not included on the VDO version designed for external controllers. The power supply consists of line filter, transformer and power circuit board assemblies, which are item numbers 12-13 in the following diagram. Some OEMs, such as Blazer Industries, found Canon's price for this additional power supply to be high, so they installed low-cost switching power supplies instead. The Printer Works stocks both types, so that VDO version printers can have embedded controllers installed. Installation of either power supply is not an easy job, and is not recommended for novices.
