Cover Parts and Colors

The above single diagram attempts to illustrate the cover parts for every version of CX and CXD printer. Some versions of the tops do not have a font cartridge slot, while others, such as the CXD and Canon A2 versions, are slightly larger than the standard CX version. The descriptions and notes often have cryptic abbreviations that may be unclear to those not very familiar with Canon printers. We use the letters "FC" as an abbreviation for Font Cartridge, "PCB" for Printed Circuit Board (i.e., Controller or Formatter) and "VDO" for versions of printers that do NOT have embedded controllers (they use an external DB-37 video interface).

Canon, QMS and most other purchasers of the CX engine used the standard Canon color. The HP LaserJet (2686A) and LaserJet 500 Plus (2686D) are the same shape as the standard Canon, but are slightly lighter in color. The Apple covers are different in both shape and color.

Apple covers were made in both white and gray. Part number information for the differences was not available to us at the time of this writing, so when ordering Apple covers, please ask the sales person to note the color on the order. Apple descriptions are also a little different, since Apple considers the side of the printer with the toner cartridge door to be the front. Canon and HP consider this side to be the right-hand side.
